Q:
How do
you know with 100% certainty that Catholicism is the way to go? I was
raised
Lutheran, but don't attend church much. I guess I find myself
questioning
how we know what is "right"? Since I don't have a really strong
religious
background, I guess I find myself wondering even where to begin.

A:
And
you began with us? That's kinda sad. But on the bright side, at least
it
can only get better from here!
To be honest, though, I
probably have never been
100% certain about anything in my life - other than the fact that I KNEW
100% who shot J.R. before anyone else...so take what I say with a grain
of salt.
But you're asking the right
questions about religion
and you'll find the right answers. What those answers are, however, are
going to differ from person to person. This isn't an argument for moral
relativism, and I'm not saying there are no "right" or "wrong" answers
in life - but at the end of the day, people of good faith come up with
different answers to what is "right".
I'm Catholic for a reason -
I like guilt. But
after years of prayer and study, this is where I've found Truth. So to
the best of my ability it seems like it's where God wants me. Though I
pray constantly for a way out.
But if you took a Lutheran,
an Evangelical, a
Methodist, etc., I presume each one of them has prayed and studied
about
it and believes where they are is right for them (or just right in
general).
So it's kinda pointless to say who's right or wrong - because I doubt
anyone's
in a particular religion screaming "We're way off the mark and
embarrassingly
wrong! Join us!"
Thus, the Catholic Church,
of course, will have
a feeling that it is "right". We point to things like Jesus
saying
to Peter: "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church. I
will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 16:18).
Long story short, Peter
went to Rome and was killed
there. He had successors, who were the bishops of Rome, all the way
down
to the current one: Pope John Paul II. So Catholics believe there's an
un-ending apostolic line; thus, because the Vatican is literally built
upon the bones of St. Peter - it's the Church Jesus was talkin' about.
So obviously my job
security here requires me
to say Catholicism is 100% right.
But if you don't buy
that...maybe at
least we can all agree that the "Jews for Jesus" are just
whack.
