Q:
As
a 24 year old single guy trying my best to practice my faith, how would
you suggest trying to find a nice girl who also is practicing her faith?
-L.
A:
First
of all, I want to make this 100% clear: The "L" from this guy does
not
stand for Lino. I swear I'm not asking this question myself.
(Well, this is a question I
ask myself, but as
you'll see I don't have the answer)
Personally, I think church
would be a great
place to meet someone of the opposite sex. Candlelight dinners are
supposed to be so romantic, right? Well, the church is filled with
candles. The Mass is like the Last Supper...I admit, it's a stretch.
That's why I've never met women at church.
You could try the young
adult groups at some parishes, of
course. I personally know a few couples who've met this way and are
happy.
But lots of times the groups are primarily a place to grow in faith -
not
exactly a singles club - so it can feel creepy if someone's hitting on
you if you're not there for that.
Another option, which may
sound wacky,
is online:
www.catholicsingles.com
and www.catholicmatch.com
and www.avemariasingles.com are a few suggestions.
I've been listing these
websites the last few years - and people have emailed me who took my
advice, used these services, and now they're happily married! They're
just rubbing it in at this point.
Of course, I tried
catholicsingles.com when I was a reporter doing a story about them, and
I got zero response. I also interviewed a guy named Brian, who founded
catholicmatch.com, and he's still single, as well.
But regardless of our lack
of success, the websites do work.
