Blue Mosque

I know, I know. It's a Catholic website. And I'm talking about mosques. So sue me.

Across the street from Haghia Sophia is the Blue Mosque...

It was built between 1609-1616, and I was told it's one of the most famous religious buildings in the world. Odd, since I'd never heard of it till the day I showed up. But nonetheless...

For the record: It's not called the Blue Mosque because it's a place where comedians can work blue, however. It's actually called the Blue Mosque because of the blue tilework which help make the place so beautiful.

Here's the ceiling...proving some its aforementioned blue-ness.

Because it's a mosque - and thus, a holy place - everyone takes their shoes off. Which I'm cool with.

But because thousands of people are there with their shoes off...

The mosque has a definite funk to it.

And since I'm no Islamic scholar...heck, I'm no scholar at all...I don't want to make any inappropriate comments about the place. So it's beautiful - but maybe we should wave good-bye and take off.

Last thing I need to do is offend people of another religion. I do a good enough job offending people of my own religion.
