Ephesus
There are more things to do
in Ephesus than you can shake a stick at. So pick up your stick and
shake it with me, won't you, as we tour the ancient city.
You may have heard of
Ephesus in the Bible. There are a couple books in
the Bible called "St. Paul's Letters to the Ephesians." Well, the
Ephesians lived in Ephesus. That's where they got the name. Clever, huh?
And this was the city Saint Paul was writing to in the Bible. So open
up Paul's Letters to the Ephesians and you'll see it through completely
different eyes. Well, not literally, of course. Because there's creepy.
And medically impossible. But at least you'll know it was a real city,
with real people, that Paul was writing to.
It doesn't look like much today. But 2,000 years ago this was one of
the richest cities around. If Donald Trump had been alive back then
(and I'm not saying he wasn't), there would have definitely been a few
Trump Tower-Temples in the area. Because it was the place to be.
Here was the Temple of
Hadrian. I don't remember much about it, but it looked cool...
And here's another old place
that looked cool. But I don't remember anything about it...
Here was the old theater.
It's even referred to in the Bible, because
Saint Paul was here.
One of the coolest things to
see was the Library of Celsus. Built in
the year 100, it was one of the world's first public libraries. And
thus, one of the first places that people ignored - just like most of
us ignore our public libraries today.
And here's a really weird
picture of me in front of it...
But aside from that odd
picture of me, now you can picture what the city of Ephesus looked like
centuries ago. Thank me later.
